PROCESSING TIME

We have the ability to process 1,000 samples every day. Majority of the time within 24-48 hour turn around.

LARGEST POTATO & ONION LAB

Western Laboratories is known for being one of the worlds largest potato and onion testing laboratories. 

BUSY SUMMER HOURS

During our summer months, our lab runs 24 hours a day! We have our day crew that run each sample, then our night crew comes in and stays until early morning prepping thousands of samples for the next day.

About Us

OUR STORY

Western Laboratories, Inc. has been serving the agricultural world since 1973. Our owner, creator and soil scientist John Taberna Senior has been here from the start. Keep scrolling to read more about him!

TOP OF THE LINE

Here at Western Laboratories we pride ourselves in top of the line testing for our customers. Our technicians are highly trained and understand the importance of sample integrity. Every sample is treated with utmost care and will be tested by the best instruments we can provide!  

WIDE VARIETY OF TESTING

Check out our testing page to see what our lab can offer you. We specialize in providing information about the chemical, physical and biological properties of soils. We process 50.000 soil, 12.000 plant tissue samples, 3,000 feed samples, 500 manure samples, 16,000 nematode samples and 1,500 disease samples per year from over 6.000 customers! Each year these number increase and it's all thanks to our awesome customers. 

John P. Taberna

John P. Taberna was born in Buffalo, Wyoming. He graduated from Crater High School in Central Point, Oregon.


 He attended California State Polytechnic University (Cal Poly) in San Luis Obispo, California (SLO). He attended grad school at the University of Idaho (U of I) in Moscow, Idaho. After graduation, John worked as a soil scientist for the NRCS and Boise Cascade. He also taught at U of I and Treasure Valley Community College (TVCC). 


In 2003 John was inducted into the Eastern Idaho Agriculture Hall of Fame. He’s been the owner and soil scientist of Western Laboratories, Inc. since 1973. With his vast knowledge of the agricultural world, 


John has helped thousands with all their agricultural needs.
